Bamboo’s qualities and potential uses are only just being fully realized although it has been used for 1,000’s of years in building production, Chinese medicine and paper.

Bamboo is very much like wood, but it’s not wood. Technically speaking, bamboo is a tree-like grass that grows extremely fast, making it among the fastest-growing plants in the world. Bamboo plants reach maturity faster than trees and can be harvested within 3-5 years.

Fast growth makes Bamboo a highly regenerative and sustainable crop.

This incredible plant is extremely strong, it is naturally organic as it does not need pesticides or herbicides to grow.  It requires very little water (hence adding to its low impact) and produces 35% more oxygen than equivalent trees, thus reducing greenhouse gases at a significantly higher rate than its hard wood equivalents. Bamboo grows in a large wide range of environments.

Its production into fibres has significantly lowered environmental impact, particularly plastic and other synthetic products.

How long do Bamboo Straws and Toothbrushes last?

Toothbrushes have the same lifespan as a plastic toothbrush i.e. replacing after 3 months. Rather than putting in the bin, our toothbrushes have great alternative uses once their brush life is complete – some fun ideas use the handle for home and school  - art & craft projects, herb garden markers, or just place in the compost for decomposing.

How do I clean Bamboo Straws?

With proper care, our ecological straws can be used for up to three months if used daily.  Make sure the straws are cleaned after every use with a pipe cleaner brush in hot water and place flat to dry or just put in the dishwasher. Put in compost once its life is up, or use your imagination for other creative ideas!
